| Francis J. Messer, 64, of Pittsfield died after a long
illness at his home in December 1996. He joined the Naval Reserve in 1949 and enlisted for
active duty in 1951. He served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea in the South
Pacific during the Korean Conflict and later served in the Atlantic. After graduation from
Stockbridge, he was employed as park supervisor of the Pittsfield State Forest, taking a
short time off to work at the Northfield Mount Hermon School, but returned to his
supervisory position in 1960, retiring in 1989. He leaves his wife Rosemary, 2 sons, a
daughter and 5 grandchildren. |
