Edward S.
Henderson, 76, of Upton, died January 2, 1997 at Worcester after a long illness.
He lived in Upton since graduation. He worked at Brooks Dairy Farm with his friend Richard
D. Stockwell '41. He was a general foreman of maintenance at Bay State Abrasives in
Westboro for 33 years, retiring in '82. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and a firefighter in
Upton serving as a member of the Upton Fire Department for 25 years and acting as clerk.
He also served as Veteran's Agent and Assessor for the town for several years. However,
his main interest was in the educational field. He was a long-time school committeeman and
was one of the original members of the Blackstone Valley Vocational Regional School
District Committee. He helped establish a vocational school for the area. He also served
as Upton's representative on the Valley Technical School Committee for 26 years, including
4 years as chairman. He was a brother of ATG. Besides his wife Margaret, he leaves 3 sons
and 9 grandchildren. |

Donald J.
Mattison, 76, formerly of Cambridge, NY, died June 3, 1997 after a brief illness.
After serving in the Army during WWII, Donald and his wife met while he was stationed in
Germany; they returned to Manchester, VT together. In '62, he moved to Cambridge where he
owned and operated the Cambridge Fairgrounds and Stables. He and his wife build and
operated the mobile home sales and park, Scenic Mountain Estates. He also worked at the
Mary McClellan Hospital. In '81, he purchased a home in Sebastian, FL and spent his
winters there and his summers in Cambridge until '87. After that his summers were spent in
Saratoga Springs, NY. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially working with and
riding horses. Besides his wife Elsbeth, he is survived by 3 sons and 2 grandchildren. |
