| Harold Frederick Bailey, retired carpenter/builder, died
September 2, 1997 in Van Nuys, CA. He lived in Southborough and Sharon before moving to CA
seven years ago. He is survived by one son, 3 daughters, 8 grandchildren and 8
great-grandchildren. His wife predeceased him. |

| Norman S. Felch, 87, of Marlborough, MA died at home
June 7, 1996 after a lengthy illness. He worked as a carpenter with local contractors in
the Marlborough area for over 20 years. In addition, he taught carpentry at the
Marlborough Vocational School for several years. From 1969 to 1984 he taught apprentice
carpentry for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 475. At
various times he worked as a horticulturist for several local growers. An avid gardener,
he was known for his daylilies. Besides his wife Doris, he leaves a daughter, 2 brothers,
6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. |

| Mary (Beaumont) Hebblethwaite, 86, of Wrentham, MA died
January 5, 1996 at the home of her daughter in Franklin. Until her marriage in 1937,
she had worked at the Weston Nurseries in Hopkinton. She was an active member of the
Congregational Church and taught Sunday School. For many years, she was active as a Girl
Scout Leader. Besides her daughter, she leaves a son, a brother, 5 grandchildren and 5
great-grandchildren. |

| Arthur N. Phelon, 85, of Rockport, MA died February 10,
1996 at Greenery Extended Care Center in Danvers. He worked as head farmer at Worcester
State Hospital for many years and later, as head farmer at Grafton State Hospital,
retiring after 25 years of service. He was an active Stockbridge alumnus, serving as
president of the Alumni Board of Directors for 2 terms. During WWII, he worked at Smith
and Wesson testing guns. He was very interested in conservation, and was one of the
originators of Earth Day. Besides his wife Helen, he leaves a son, a brother, a sister and
3 grandchildren. |

| Katherine (Fox) Smiley, 86, formerly of Leominster and
Sterling, died June 27, 1997 in Fitchburg. for many years, Katherine and her husband
operated Sterling Orchards growing fruits, vegetables and flowers, and where she also
conducted tours. She was an accrdited judge at the Sterling Fair, a member of the
Worcester Horticultural Society and a member of the Women's Club and the Garden Club. Her
husband Ray predeceased her. She leaves 2 sons, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. |
